Transformative Journey Unveiled: J&K Union Minister Javed Ahmad Dar Launches Inspiring ‘Watershed Yatra’
In Jammu and Kashmir, the Minister for Agricultural Production and Rural Development, Javed Ahmad Dar, addressed the urgent environmental issues arising from rapid development and commercialization. Speaking at the launch of the “Watershed Yatra” at Government Degree College Hiranagar in Kathua district, the Minister emphasized the necessity for ecological conservation and water management in the face of growing urbanization and industrial expansion. He highlighted that while development is essential, it must be balanced with ecological preservation to prevent further environmental degradation.
Mr. Dar urged the public to actively participate in the Watershed Yatra, a campaign designed to increase awareness about environmental preservation. In particular, he underscored the vital role of conserving natural resources like water bodies and forest cover to combat climate change and promote sustainable development.
As part of this initiative, the Minister flagged off the Watershed Yatra Van, which will embark on a 2,400-kilometer journey across Jammu and Kashmir. This campaign aims to engage over 500,000 residents through workshops, community activities, and awareness drives. Scheduled to run until the end of the month, the Yatra will culminate in Jammu, where it will highlight sustainable practices such as watershed conservation, soil health enhancement, and rainwater harvesting techniques.
The campaign seeks to empower local communities with knowledge and practices that support environmental sustainability. By fostering public awareness and participation, the Watershed Yatra aims to build a collective effort toward maintaining ecological balance, ensuring that development progresses in harmony with nature’s preservation.
Mr. Dar’s initiative underscores the importance of individual and communal actions in safeguarding the region’s natural resources, highlighting that effective management and conservation efforts can substantially mitigate the impacts of climate change. Through this program, the Jammu and Kashmir government hopes to inspire more conscientious development practices that secure a sustainable future for the region.
