Shocking Victory: Manipur Police Courageously Arrest Four Militants in Bold Crackdown on Extortion
On February 4, Manipur police conducted a series of successful operations, resulting in the arrest of four active militants from various banned organizations in Imphal and Bishnupur districts. Among those apprehended were two members from the Kangleipak Communist Party – Progressive Wing Group (KCP-PWG). Ningthoujam Jupiter Singh, 27, and Sorokhaibam Amarjit Singh, 28, were arrested in Imphal East’s Mahabali under Porompat-PS. They were involved in extortion activities targeting civilians, government officials, and shopkeepers in Greater Imphal. Seized from their possession were an M20 pistol with live ammunition, a two-wheeler, a sling bag, and two mobile phones.
In a separate operation, security forces captured Lourembam Mani Singh, 46, an active member of the United National Liberation Front (UNLF), linked to extortion activities and monetary demands directed at government offices in Imphal. Arrested at Takyel Kolom Leikai under Lamphel-PS, Imphal West, Singh had a mobile phone, a two-wheeler, and a black wallet containing an Aadhaar card and cash amounting to Rs 4,270.
Another operation led to the arrest of Pukhrambam Prem Singh, 47, of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), who was involved in significant extortion activities in Nambol, Bishnupur, and Ningthoukhong areas. Arrested in Ningthoukhong, Bishnupur District, authorities recovered three mobile phones and a wallet containing PAN and Aadhaar cards from him.
Concurrently, security forces continued extensive search operations and area control activities in vulnerable hill and valley districts. These efforts ensured the safe movement of 526 vehicles transporting essential items along NH-2 and NH-37. Strict security measures were enforced in sensitive areas, with 110 checkpoints established across Manipur. No individuals were detained during the security operations.
