Empowering Sikkim’s Future: Joyful News as Students Receive Free Textbooks and Uniforms!
On February 3, marking the commencement of the new academic session, Sikkim’s education department executed a significant initiative by distributing free textbooks and uniforms to students across all government schools in the state. This program benefitted 40,968 students enrolled in 767 schools, according to officials. The initiative was not limited to regular government schools; it extended to monastic schools and Sanskrit pathshalas, highlighting the state government’s dedication to providing an inclusive and well-rounded education for all students.
To ensure the distribution process ran seamlessly, prominent education officials, including the secretary, principal director, and district CEOs, were actively involved. They visited various schools to oversee the distribution and participated in the first-day ‘zero period’ sessions, engaging with both students and teachers to set a positive tone for the new academic year.
This marks the second consecutive year the Sikkim government has undertaken such a proactive measure on the first day of school, distributing essential educational resources like textbooks, exercise books, and uniforms. This initiative significantly alleviates the financial burden on families, aiming to ensure that every student, regardless of their socio-economic background, has access to quality education from the outset of the academic year.
The initiative underscores the Sikkim government’s commitment to fortifying the state’s education system, setting a precedent for educational equity and accessibility. Through this continued effort, Sikkim demonstrates its dedication to nurturing an informed and educated generation, thereby contributing to the holistic development of the state.
