Urgent Appeal: COCOMI Submits Critical Memo to PM Through Manipur CM
Imphal: The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi via Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, urging a concerted effort to tackle the escalating drug crisis in the northeastern states. COCOMI convenor Khuraijam Athouba revealed that the memorandum, which includes detailed reports on drug seizures in the region, has also been presented to BJP leaders in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and Tripura. They plan to extend the appeal to non-BJP governments in the region shortly.
The memorandum calls on the northeastern chief ministers to form a dedicated Anti-Narcotics Bureau and to declare the area a “Narco-Terrorist Emergency Zone.” It stresses the need for a unified approach among northeastern states to combat narco-terrorism, particularly along the porous border with Myanmar. It also advocates for increased cooperation between central and state governments, highlighting the urgency of curtailing illegal drug trade, dismantling drug-trafficking infrastructure, and developing transparent policies to address the crisis.
Furthermore, the memorandum points to the involvement of powerful figures in Manipur, Mizoram, and Myanmar in narco-terrorism activities, urging immediate investigation. COCOMI warns that if neglected, the narco-terrorism issue in Manipur could escalate into an international problem. The committee calls for immediate government action to safeguard the region from becoming a global narco-terrorism hub.
