Exciting News: Guwahati Chosen as Vibrant Host for India’s Badminton Camp Before Thrilling Asia Mixed Team Championships!
The Indian badminton team will gather for a five-day training camp at the National Centre of Excellence (NCE) in Guwahati from February 4 to 8. This preparation comes in anticipation of the Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships, scheduled to take place in Qingdao, China, from February 11 to 16.
Leading the 14-member squad will be two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu and Paris Olympics semi-finalist Lakshya Sen. The team, which secured bronze in the previous edition, also includes Asian Games gold medallists Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, as well as Olympian HS Prannoy and other notable Indian shuttlers.
The camp at NCE is recognized for fostering junior talent and will serve as an essential platform for emerging players to gain insights from veteran athletes, enhancing team unity prior to the major championship. Sanjay Mishra, Secretary General of the Badminton Association of India (BAI), highlighted the significance of the camp beyond just skill refinement, underscoring its role in cultivating discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
PV Sindhu’s return to the international circuit after her marriage in December will be closely watched, as she aims to regain her top form at this state-of-the-art facility. Satwik and Chirag will also focus on improving their performance and developing team synergy during the camp.
The squad is set to depart for China on February 8, with ambitions to surpass their previous podium finish at this event. The training camp is expected to be a vital phase for the team, allowing them to refine strategies and enter the championship with confidence and cohesion.
