Revolutionary Tax Relief Sparks Hope: BJP’s ‘Modi Hai Toh Mumkin Hai’ Mantra in Kolkata
The West Bengal BJP has hailed the Union Budget presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman as “historic” for providing income tax relief, especially benefiting the middle class. Prime Minister Narendra Modi previously indicated favorable news, culminating in an increase in the income tax rebate from Rs 2.5 lakh in 2014 to Rs 12 lakh this year. BJP state general secretary Jagannath Chattopadhyay emphasized the positive impact on societal development, characterizing the budget as a pathway for national progress.
Rajya Sabha MP Samik Bhattacharya highlighted the key tax benefits for the middle class, while Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar praised the budget as dynamic and people-friendly, noting significant relief offered under the new tax regime. Suvendu Adhikari, Leader of Opposition in the Assembly, endorsed the Budget’s focus on ‘GYAN’—targeting the poor, youth, farmers, and women—and celebrated the exemption from income tax for earnings up to Rs 12 lakh as a major boon for the middle class.
Addressing criticisms from the Trinamool Congress (TMC) about the budget’s lack of provisions for Bengal, Bhattacharya attributed the lag in implementing Central projects, like the proposed Malda airport, to the TMC’s infrastructural delays. He urged the state government to reflect on its administrative inefficiencies.
Overall, the BJP leaders in West Bengal perceive the budget as a milestone in fostering economic growth and providing substantial relief to taxpayers, especially the middle and lower-middle classes.
