Unveiling the Alarming Truth: Administrative Negligence and Lobby Politics Plague Bodoland University
Bodoland University, a prominent educational institution in Assam’s Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), faces renewed scrutiny amid allegations of administrative negligence and persisting lobby politics. Dipen Boro, the Central President of the All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU), raised significant concerns regarding the university’s prolonged delays in result announcements and the untimely provision of academic curricula and mark sheets. Boro criticized the rising influence of lobby politics within the university, stressing the threat it poses to academic integrity.
Following a meeting with Bodoland University Vice-Chancellor B.L. Ahuja on January 29, Boro highlighted to an India Today NE correspondent the imperative of preserving the university’s reputation, given its foundational ties to the sacrifices of Bodoland movement martyrs. A critical issue identified by ABSU is the university’s failure to fill 34 sanctioned teaching positions, encompassing roles for professors and assistant professors, due to the lack of recruitment advertisements. This vacancy stalemate is reportedly disrupting students’ academic journeys. Furthermore, 59 non-teaching roles await approval, further hindering administrative operations.
Boro condemned what he perceives as dictatorial governance and urged all stakeholders to eschew influences detrimental to students’ futures. Demonstrating unified concern, a delegation led by ABSU Central General Secretary Khanindra Basumatary, along with Bodoland University’s Unit Committee members, engaged with Vice-Chancellor Ahuja, demanding swift measures to rectify these persistent issues. The developments at Bodoland University underscore the urgent call for administrative transparency and a renewed focus on the institution’s educational mission, safeguarding its pivotal role in the region’s academic landscape.
