Agartala, 22nd January 2025: The Darlong community recently commemorated the late freedom fighter Dr. Chunilal Ghosh for his vital contributions toward their development and settlement. This special ceremony took place last Sunday evening during the Rising Day celebrations at Chini Bagan in Unkoti ADC Village, part of the Gournagar block.
Dr. Ghosh’s legacy was honored posthumously, with his son receiving a medal on his behalf. The tribute highlighted Dr. Ghosh’s pivotal role during the 1950s when he assisted the Darlongs in moving from the Belkum hills in Kailashahar to the Chini Bagan area. “Dr. Chunilal Ghosh played an instrumental role in our community’s history,” remarked V. Darlong, Additional Superintendent of Police of Unakoti district. “His dedication to helping us settle in Chini Bagan and supporting our socio-economic development has left an indelible mark on our community.”
A significant aspect of Dr. Ghosh’s contributions was his involvement in a legal battle with a sugar company, which attempted to block the Darlong community’s settlement in the region. Thanks to his support, the community won the case, securing a court order that permitted them to live in the sugarcane garden area.
“His unwavering support during the legal challenges and efforts towards our community’s progress are why we’re here today,” stated Lalminthanga Darlong, President of the Rising Day Festival Celebration Committee.
The event was graced by prominent figures such as V. Darlong, Additional Superintendent of Police, Lalminthanga Darlong, and V.D. Darlong, Secretary of the Rising Day Festival Celebration Committee. This occasion served as a tribute to Dr. Ghosh’s enduring legacy, ensuring that his invaluable contributions are remembered by future generations.
