Outrage in Karimganj: Students Unite Against Shocking 74% Hike in Degree Fees
Protests against the recent hike in degree admission fees are intensifying in Karimganj district. For the third day in a row, hundreds of students have converged at the Dharna Shed in the Ayukta premises, braving the intense heat to express their dissatisfaction.
The fee increase, which added approximately Rs. 3,000 to the previous Rs. 4,060, now totals Rs. 7,060. This significant hike has disproportionately affected students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, rendering higher education increasingly inaccessible.
Despite mounting protests and palpable frustration among the student community, the district administration has yet to address their concerns. Protesters accuse both the ruling party and local administration of neglecting their plight.
A student leader, representing the demonstrators, stated, “We have been sitting here for days, enduring the scorching heat, yet no one from the administration has come forward to address our concerns. The fee hike is unjust and makes it impossible for many of us to continue our education.”
The students are demanding an immediate rollback of the fee increase and urge the government and district authorities to act swiftly to make education affordable for all.
