Tragic Loss: Dibrugarh MBBS Student’s Heartbreaking Suicide at AIIMS Bhubaneswar
A tragic incident unfolded at AIIMS-Bhubaneswar as a second-year MBBS student from Assam, Ratnesh Kumar Mishra, was found dead in his hostel room on December 25, in an apparent suicide, according to police reports. Mishra, 21, hailed from Dibrugarh and was discovered hanging from the ceiling fan by fellow students and his father after repeated unanswered calls raised concern. He was subsequently taken to the hospital’s Emergency Room, but was declared dead upon arrival.
Authorities are investigating the possible reasons behind Mishra’s decision, with financial distress in his family cited as a probable factor. Mishra had reportedly sent an audio message to his younger brother before the incident, urging their father not to sell their land and advising his brother to pursue a medical career in Assam. A note found in his room stated that no one was responsible for his death.
Mishra had just returned to campus the day prior with his father, following a 10-day vacation. He was preparing for his second-year exams set to begin Thursday and had planned to visit Puri with his father the subsequent day. The tragedy highlights the ongoing mental health challenges faced by students, exacerbated by personal and financial stressors. Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Mishra’s death.
