Unyielding Frustration: Pacers Struggle as India Prepares on Flat Tracks for Boxing Day Test
India’s Challenging Practice Conditions at MCG Ahead of Boxing Day Test
As the Boxing Day Test against Australia looms, Team India faces mounting challenges in Melbourne. A report from the Times of India highlights that the practice pitches provided at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) offered ‘low bounce’ and ‘absolutely nothing’ for pace bowlers. This situation left key pacers Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Akash Deep with little assistance, except when Bumrah used angles and wrist work to extract some quality deliveries.
Meanwhile, the Australian team has yet to commence their training in Melbourne and plans only an optional session on Monday. It is unlikely that they will face the same flat tracks as their Indian counterparts. Interestingly, during India’s practice, several pitches remained covered, and when unveiled, they appeared more challenging than those the visitors used.
Adding to India’s concerns, captain Rohit Sharma experienced an injury scare. While batting in the nets, the 37-year-old was struck on the left knee by a throwdown, prompting immediate attention from the team physio. Despite visible discomfort, the injury is not believed to be severe. With several days before the Test, Sharma hopes for a swift recovery.
As both teams prepare for one of cricket’s most anticipated matches, the practice conditions at the MCG add another layer of intrigue to the upcoming contest.
