Remarkable Victory: Arunachal’s Inspiring Success in Slashing Poverty Rates – Governor’s Insight | Guwahati News
Arunachal Pradesh has achieved significant strides in various development sectors, as highlighted by Governor Lt Gen (retd) KT Parnaik during the 72nd NEC plenary in Agartala. The state has notably reduced multidimensional poverty, marked by a 166% rise in its Gross State Domestic Product since 2015-16, and a 321% increase in its own resources since 2014-15. Recognized as a ‘frontrunner state’ in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) scorecard for 2023-2024, Arunachal Pradesh is committed to contributing to India’s vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047.
Efforts are intensifying in the education sector with improvements from anganwadis to government schools, incorporating NEP 2020 and smart technologies. Eco, religious, and adventure tourism development is underway, with focus areas on infrastructure and skill development for youth in tourism roles. In agriculture, the state has produced substantial quantities of cereals and Kiwis, necessitating better storage and transport facilities through NEC support.
The governor emphasized the nurturing of a vibrant start-up ecosystem via the Arunachal Pradesh Innovation and Investment Park (APIIP), and the advancement of the non-polluting industries under state schemes like UNNATI. Law and order have improved with new women police stations and modern crime monitoring systems in place.
Sports talent in Arunachal is thriving, with residents excelling nationally and internationally in disciplines such as judo, karate, and more. There is a push for a multidisciplinary sports stadium and better coaching resources to further nurture this talent.
Women are leading in sectors like education and social welfare, and self-help groups play a key role in tackling social issues. The governor mentioned challenges of financial inclusion and workforce capacity, expressing gratitude to central bodies for support and urging continued assistance from the NEC to further the state’s growth and development objectives.
