Celebrate the Inspiring Spirit of Sikkim: Sikkim Krantikari Morcha Commemorates the 16th Rholu Diwas Today!
The Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) is poised to celebrate its 16th Rholu Diwas with great pomp today at Rholu Mandir in the Melli constituency, Namchi district. The celebration holds deep religious and political significance for Sikkim. The origins of Rholu Diwas date back to December 21, 2009, when Prem Singh Tamang, now Chief Minister, initiated the “Parivartan movement” from the Rholu Mandir while serving as an MLA for the Sikkim Democratic Front. This movement played a pivotal role in SKM’s 2019 electoral victory.
SKM Secretary General, Arun Upreti, emphasized the event’s importance in shaping the state’s political and cultural identity. It combines religious rituals and cultural programs, with Chief Minister Tamang as the chief guest, and is eagerly anticipated for announcements regarding public welfare. Preparations for the event have been underway for weeks, with festivities set to commence at 9 am, featuring religious ceremonies and cultural performances, alongside strictly vegetarian meals.
Bikash Basnett, Political Secretary to the Chief Minister, highlighted Rholu Diwas as emblematic of SKM’s foundational vision and evolution into a movement embraced by Sikkim’s people. Reflecting on SKM’s governance, Basnett lauded achievements in health, education, and infrastructure over the past five years.
Rholu Diwas holds as much significance as major festivals like Dashain and Tihar among SKM members. Despite past challenges while in opposition, SKM continued to commemorate this event annually. Basnett remarked that Rholu Diwas symbolizes the party’s steadfast commitment to Sikkim’s populace. The celebration invites citizens to take part and contribute to its success.
This year’s Rholu Diwas not only marks a historical journey but also promises to be a dynamic mix of tradition, political discourse, and community engagement.
