Heroic Security Forces Uncover Dangerous Weapons & Explosives in Imphal East Villages
Search operations conducted in Nungbram Village and Lairok Vaiphei Village in Manipur’s Imphal East district have unearthed a substantial cache of weapons and explosives, highlighting persistent security challenges in the area. The operation resulted in the recovery of a 7.62mm Russian RPD machine gun, a 5.56mm INSAS rifle, and a 0.32 pistol with its magazine. Additionally, various explosives, including a 2-inch mortar, a 2.5 kg explosive device, and several hand grenades, such as No. 36 and WP types, were seized. The security forces also discovered two wireless radio sets, potentially linked to insurgent activities.
In a notable find, authorities uncovered a considerable amount of ammunition, including live rounds for 7.62mm and 5.56mm firearms, improvised mortar shells, and heavy artillery shells. This discovery underscores the extent of illegal armament present in the region.
This operation is part of a broader initiative by security forces to stabilize vulnerable areas in Manipur, a region with a history of insurgency activities. These efforts aim to curb the proliferation of illegal arms and ensure the safety and security of the local population.
In a related incident on December 17, a collaborative operation by the Indian Army and Manipur Police led to the recovery of five improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in the Maphitel Ridge area of Imphal East. Acting on precise intelligence, the forces discovered 21.5 kilograms of IEDs spread across multiple locations. The detection was facilitated by Eva, an explosive detection dog, and the Army’s bomb disposal squad, highlighting the ongoing efforts to neutralize potential threats in the region.
These operations reflect the continued vigilance and commitment of security forces in addressing the security challenges posed by insurgent activities and illegal armament in Manipur.
