BJP Unveils Shocking Truth: How Congress Allegedly Cost B.R. Ambedkar His Victorious Future | Political Pulse News
The political landscape in India heated up as opposition parties called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address contentious remarks made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding B R Ambedkar. In response, Modi defended Shah while criticizing the Congress for allegedly spreading lies and recalling its historical grievances against Ambedkar. These grievances included the Congress’s efforts to defeat Ambedkar in elections—citing Pandit Nehru’s active campaign against him. Despite being appointed by Nehru as the Law Minister in India’s first cabinet, Ambedkar’s political journey was marred by electoral defeats.
In the 1952 general elections, Ambedkar lost the Bombay North Central seat to Congress candidate Narayan Sadoba Kajrolkar, amidst allegations of electoral misconduct involving rejected ballots. Historians like Gail Omvedt note that both Socialists and Dalits fared poorly in this election, with Ambedkar attributing his loss partly to the Communists. Despite his defeat, he remained a member of the Rajya Sabha but harbored discontent over his dependency on Congress support for the position.
Ambedkar faced another defeat in the 1954 Bhandara by-election, where he criticized Nehru’s leadership and foreign policy. Shashi Tharoor, in his writings, attributes these losses partly to Ambedkar underestimating Congress’s influence and his own controversial stances. Christophe Jaffrelot observes that Ambedkar’s Scheduled Caste Federation failed to resonate beyond his Mahar community. However, Ambedkar’s vision for a broader coalition took shape in 1956 with the formation of the Republican Party of India, a strategy later adopted more successfully by groups like the Bahujan Samaj Party.
