Guwahati: Renowned tabla virtuoso Zakir Hussain has passed away at the age of 73 in a San Francisco hospital, according to a statement from his family on Monday. Hussain succumbed to idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis complications after spending two weeks in the hospital, eventually being transferred to the ICU.
Hussain, celebrated as the foremost tabla player of his era, leaves behind his wife, Antonia Minnecola, and daughters, Anisa Qureshi and Isabella Qureshi. Born on March 9, 1951, Zakir Hussain was the son of illustrious tabla maestro Ustad Allah Rakha and built an unparalleled legacy in the music world. Acknowledged by fans internationally, his influence is expected to echo through generations.
