Exciting Boost for Assam: New Development Bank Approves Whopping $333.80 Million for Stunning 4-Lane Brahmaputra Bridge

The New Development Bank has sanctioned $333.80 million for a key infrastructure project in Assam: the construction of a 4-lane, extra-dosed bridge over the Brahmaputra River. This bridge will connect Palashbari and Sualkuchi, marking the bank’s second significant investment in the region following the Guwahati-North Guwahati six-lane bridge.

Named the Assam Bridge Project-II, the undertaking will be carried out using the Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) model and will include viaducts, approach roads, and River Training Works. The Assam government is set to provide Rs 6.77 billion in counterpart funding.

This ambitious project aims to bolster transport infrastructure in the Guwahati Metropolitan Area (GMA), offering a vital link between its northern and southern regions. Spanning 12.2 kilometers, the bridge will enhance connectivity, facilitate the diversion of regional and urban traffic, and link the international airport with industrial zones in Sualkuchi.

The Assam Public Works Roads Department (APWRD) will oversee the project’s execution, which is projected to take four years to complete.

Originating from the BRICS states, the New Development Bank is a multilateral institution designed to support development projects in emerging economies. This new bridge project aligns with the bank’s objective to improve infrastructure and foster regional development.

By addressing critical transportation needs, the bridge will significantly impact the daily commutes and economic activities, promising enhanced mobility and industrial growth in the region. With substantial funding and a clear execution plan, the project is set to transform Assam’s transportation landscape in the coming years.
