Defiant Courage: Yogi Defends HC Judge and Vice President Amidst Impeachment Threats
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has reiterated his support for implementing a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in India, aligning with statements made by Justice Shekhar Kumar Yadav of the Allahabad High Court. Justice Yadav recently advocated for the UCC at a Vishwa Hindu Parishad event, prompting the Opposition to file an impeachment notice against him. Speaking at the ‘World Hindu Economic Forum 2024’ in Mumbai, CM Adityanath criticized the Opposition for their actions, labeling them as undemocratic and accusing them of attempting to silence voices that reflect societal truths.
Adityanath emphasized the need for India to transcend divisions between majority and minority communities, arguing that other countries align their societal systems with the sentiments of the majority population. He warned against forces working to undermine the Constitution and highlighted the Congress-led Opposition’s hypocrisy in filing a motion against Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, who he praised for his work in upholding constitutional dignity.
Accusing some Congress leaders of trying to diminish India’s cultural heritage and identity, CM Adityanath called for the exposure of those who stifle the nation’s traditions and the societal role of women. With references to epics such as the Ramayana and Mahabharata, he took a swipe at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, suggesting that attempts to discredit India’s legacy will persist as long as such figures remain active.
In his remarks, Adityanath urged for a collective move toward a unified legal framework to ensure equality and highlighted the repercussions of truth suppression in society. The Chief Minister’s comments have intensified discourse surrounding the UCC and its implications for India’s diverse cultural landscape.
