Breaking: High-Stakes No-Confidence Vote in Congress Targets Jagdeep Dhankhar
The Congress-led INDIA opposition bloc has filed a no-confidence motion against Rajya Sabha Chairperson Jagdeep Dhankhar, accusing him of partisan conduct. The motion, signed by over 50 MPs from parties like Congress, Trinamool Congress, Aam Aadmi Party, Samajwadi Party, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, and Rashtriya Janata Dal, faces slim prospects of success due to the opposition’s lack of majority in both Houses of Parliament. The motion requires a simple majority in the Rajya Sabha followed by the Lok Sabha, which observers believe is unlikely to materialize.
The notice came after intense disruptions in Parliament, where BJP and opposition members clashed over various issues. These included accusations of a link between Congress leader Sonia Gandhi and businessman George Soros, prompting adjournments. The opposition claimed it was being silenced on important matters like violence in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, and farmers’ Minimum Support Price protests. Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra accused the BJP of avoiding discussions on critical issues, including the Adani controversy.
On the BJP side, Union Minister Giriraj Singh demanded clarification from Congress on the alleged George Soros connection. Tensions rose further following BJP President JP Nadda’s statements suggesting ties between Mrs. Gandhi and the Democratic Leaders in Asia Pacific Foundation, sparking national security concerns. Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge challenged these claims, criticizing Mr. Dhankhar’s handling of the situation.
The BJP also targeted Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of being part of a conspiracy to destabilize India, supported by Soros and certain U.S. agencies. These accusations coincide with a report by Mediapart highlighting alleged associations between OCCRP and the U.S. government. The U.S. has dismissed BJP’s claims, stating its collaborative efforts with independent organizations do not influence editorial independence. NDTV remains accessible for updates via WhatsApp.
