Discover the Enchanting Beauty and Vibrant Heritage of Nagaland: A Union Minister’s Heartfelt Tribute
Union Minister Mansukh L. Mandaviya lauded the people of Nagaland, highlighting its exceptional natural beauty and cultural heritage, during an interactive session with officials from the Labour & Employment and Youth Affairs & Sports Departments, alongside sports associations’ representatives at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima, on December 7. His visit coincided with the 25th Hornbill Festival, a vibrant cultural event celebrating Nagaland’s rich traditions.
Mandaviya praised Nagaland as the “Land of Festivals,” noting that its cultural diversity symbolizes unity and the residents serve both as guardians of ancient customs and leaders in creating a progressive India. He expressed enthusiasm to experience the festival, emphasizing it as a showcase of India’s cultural diversity—evident in the Naga warriors’ music, intricate handloom crafts, and local cuisine.
Highlighting India’s sports evolution, Mandaviya attributed the progress to strategic governance under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. India has developed into a formidable contender globally over the last decade, excelling in prestigious events like the Olympics and Paralympics, owing to strategic planning and grassroots efforts.
He underscored government initiatives such as the Khelo India Program and the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS), which foster grassroots sports and support elite athletes. These programs have significantly boosted India’s sports infrastructure and athlete capabilities.
Mandaviya also emphasized inclusivity, particularly in women’s sports, applauding the ASMITA Khelo India Women’s League for advancing gender equality and empowering female athletes.
Abu Metha, Advisor to the Chief Minister and Secretary General of the Nagaland Olympic Association, remarked on Nagaland’s swift sports development, emphasizing its promise despite its late entry into the arena.
The blend of cultural celebration and sports development showcases Nagaland’s and India’s commitment to preserving heritage while striving toward excellence in global sports.
