Thrilling Kickoff: 9th Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival Ignites Passion in Guwahati!
The 9th Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival (BVFF) kicked off on December 5 at Guwahati’s Jyoti Chitraban Film Studio, launching a four-day cinematic celebration in the North-East. Festival director Tanushree Hazarika emphasized BVFF’s role in highlighting compelling stories and fostering cinema discussions. This year, the festival showcases 30 films, including 13 features, five documentaries, and 12 shorts, across competitive and non-competitive sections. Engaging master classes and industry sessions accompany the screenings.
A major festival highlight is the theatrical release of “Sardar Udham,” directed by Shoojit Sircar and starring Vicky Kaushal. Postponed due to the pandemic, the film finally debuts, exploring Udham Singh’s quest for justice after the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. Other anticipated screenings include “Village Rockstars 2” by Rima Das and Payal Kapadia’s “All We Imagine as Light,” which recently won the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival.
The event’s opening sparkled with the presence of filmmaker Navdeep Singh, producer Ronnie Lahiri, and actor Kopil Bora, among others. Singer Abhishruti Bezbaruah captivated audiences with her performance. The inaugural film was “Bibo Binanao (My Three Sisters)” by Kenny Deori Basumatary, a Bodo-language feature about 22-year-old Mizi’s resilience in supporting her sisters.
Day 2 featured the Indian premieres of “Chabila” by Anil Amrut Bhalerao, Sumanth Bhat’s “Mithya,” and “Jibonsobi” by Mridu Pawan Bora, alongside French animated film “Sirocco and the Kingdom of the Winds” by Benoit Chieux. The documentary lineup included “Jyoti Kokaideu” by Parthajit Baruah and “Two Trains” by Vishwesh Suresh.
Prominent industry figures, such as Tigmanshu Dhulia, Rajeev Masand, and others, are set to participate, ensuring a robust exchange of ideas and celebrating Indian cinema’s diverse talent.
