The call for debate centers on the ‘silence’ of the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) amidst serious allegations by the U.S. Department of Justice (DoJ) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) regarding bribery and securities fraud involving the Adani Group.

Gogoi’s notice underscores SECI’s lack of response to these charges, highlighting how this inaction undermines the expected transparency and accountability of public sector entities. He stressed that scandals linked to solar power agreements facilitated by SECI directly impact India’s renewable energy sector, which is critical for the nation’s energy security and climate commitments.

The MP questioned SECI’s procedures for awarding contracts to Adani Group companies, pointing to potential lapses in due diligence and safeguards to protect public funds. Gogoi urged the Lok Sabha to support the motion and called for a thorough investigation into SECI’s involvement in the matter, emphasizing that the interests of public institutions should not be compromised for the benefit of a select few.
