Manipur Police Boldly Detain 29 Assam Residents for ILP Breach; Justice Prevails Today
Imphal, Dec 3: Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh announced the arrest of 29 individuals from Assam for breaching the Inner Line Permit (ILP) regulations in Mayang Imphal, Imphal West district. According to their Aadhaar cards, these individuals are Assam residents, but their engagement in bakery-related activities violates Manipur’s ILP rules, which permit only those involved in government and private construction projects. Consequently, the official responsible for issuing their ILPs has been suspended.
The Chief Minister confirmed that the 29 individuals will be repatriated to Assam, with a formal handover at Jiribam.
In a separate issue, Singh provided updates on the ongoing search for Laishram Kamalbabu Singh, a 56-year-old Meitei man missing for eight days from a nearby Army camp. His disappearance has provoked local protests, with demands for accountability from the Indian Army. In response, the Army has launched an extensive search operation. Over 2,000 troops, along with helicopters, drones, and tracker dogs, are involved, and technical intelligence is being utilized to locate the missing man. Despite these efforts, no leads have been found.
In an earlier plea, Chief Minister Singh urged the Army to intensify their efforts in finding Laishram Kamalbabu Singh, emphasizing the urgency and concern of his disappearance.
This incident highlights tensions in the region surrounding the implementation of ILP regulations and the community’s call for accountability in missing persons cases. Despite the challenges, both the state government and military forces are striving to address these issues through coordinated efforts and thorough investigations.
