Exciting Milestone: Maharashtra Cabinet Oath-Taking Ceremony to Ignite Transformation on December 5
Maharashtra Cabinet Oath-Taking Ceremony Scheduled Amid Leadership Speculation
The new Maharashtra cabinet is set to be sworn in on Thursday, December 5, at 5 PM at Mumbai’s Azad Maidan, as announced by BJP Maharashtra chief, Chandrashekhar Bawankule. The ceremony will be graced by the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
However, ambiguity persists regarding the key appointment of the chief minister. Eknath Shinde, currently the caretaker chief minister, remains in his home village in Satara due to health reasons and reportedly harbors discontent with the cabinet formation developments. Discussions continue in both Delhi and Mumbai, with BJP’s Devendra Fadnavis emerging as the likely candidate due to support from the BJP central leadership and Ajit Pawar’s NCP faction. Fadnavis, who has served as chief minister twice before, is considered a strong contender.
In the recent elections held on November 23, the BJP clinched a majority in the 288-member Maharashtra assembly by securing 132 seats. Teaming up with Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena (57 seats) and Ajit Pawar’s NCP (41 seats), the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance amassed a commanding 230 seats, significantly above the 145-seat majority requirement. Conversely, the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance, composed of Uddhav Thackeray’s Sena faction, the Congress, and Sharad Pawar’s NCP faction, secured only 46 seats.
As the political landscape in Maharashtra evolves, all eyes remain on the imminent cabinet formation and leadership decisions.
