Experience the Vibrant Magic: Unforgettable Two-Day Art Street Kicks Off in Coimbatore
As part of Coimbatore Vizha, an engaging art event called Art Street, or “Oviya Sandhai,” unfolded over two days in Coimbatore city, starting Saturday. Inaugurated by District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati, the exhibition showcased over 100 artists from across India and featured sculptures crafted from plastic bottles to emphasize the environmental theme, ‘Sustain to Retain – SuRe’. This initiative highlights the detrimental impact of plastic pollution, aiming to encourage responsible use.
Art Street also launched hands-on workshops for children, including pottery, art and craft, and painting sessions. The event serves as a launchpad for budding local artists, as stated by S. Sujeeth, a coconut shell artist. Additionally, the exhibit celebrated creativity with nearly 300 artworks by children with autism, showcasing their commitment and focus, as highlighted by teacher K. Sangeetha.
The exhibition, enriched with diverse art forms like sand art, clay sculptures, and mixed-media installations, has seen growth in participating artworks, capturing the attention of art enthusiasts like M. Pavithra. The event’s dynamic range broadens opportunities for artists to explore and exhibit beyond traditional paintings, making it a key cultural highlight of the city.
