Manipur’s Fiery Rebuke: Emotive Clashes with Mizoram CM Over ‘Hatred and Division’
The Manipur government has strongly criticized Mizoram’s Chief Minister Lalduhoma, accusing him of fomenting “hatred and division” through his recent comments. The Manipur administration urged the Mizoram leader to exhibit “better statesmanship” by fostering neighborly relations. The criticism follows Lalduhoma’s remarks in a Hindustan Times interview where he labeled Manipur’s Chief Minister N Biren Singh as a liability and suggested President’s Rule as a preferable option. Lalduhoma questioned border fencing with Myanmar and advocated for the reunification of Zo people, raising concerns over potential militias in Manipur.
Manipur’s government countered these assertions, emphasizing that the state’s challenges stem from illegal immigration and drug trafficking, not as a result of anti-tribal policies. The government highlighted that its ‘War on Drugs’ initiative had curbed these issues significantly, contrasting Mizoram, which it claims has become a key transit route for illegal arms and drugs.
The statement reiterated Manipur’s resistance to any external agenda aimed at fragmenting Northeast India by establishing a Kuki-Chin Christian nation across parts of Myanmar, India, and Bangladesh. It warned against the alleged push of illegal Kuki-Chin immigrants from Mizoram into Manipur for land grabs and the creation of a “Greater Mizoram.”
Additionally, Manipur authorities pointed out the state’s efforts to maintain peace and provide relief to over 60,000 people in camps while combating arms and drug trafficking. They called on Mizoram to focus on its societal threats from the drug trade instead of making unwarranted allegations against Manipur’s legal actions. The statement concluded by pressing the Mizoram leader to prioritize good neighborly relations over divisive rhetoric.
