Urgent Concern: Why is Dimapur’s Development Being Neglected? DUCCF Raises Alarming Questions | MorungExpress
Dimapur Urban Council Chairman Federation Expresses Concerns Over Developmental Neglect
Dimapur, November 27 (Morung Express News) – The Dimapur Urban Council Chairman Federation (DUCCF) raised alarms over inadequate developmental activities in Dimapur during a press conference at Duncan Basti Community Hall on Wednesday. In an assertive move, the federation announced its decision to file Right to Information (RTI) applications directed at the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC), Urban Development Department (UDD), and Multi-Disciplinary State Stadium (MDSS) to compel transparency from these bodies.
Representing 23 wards and 97 colonies, DUCCF President Zasivikho Zakiesato stated that the residents of Dimapur are kept uninformed about developmental projects. Despite Dimapur being labeled as the fastest-developing district, Zakiesato lamented the notable absence of tangible progress.
A significant grievance presented by the DUCCF concerns the arbitrary increase in the Residential Sanitation Fee (RSF) by the DMC, which rose from Rs 50 to Rs 60, and subsequently to Rs 100 per household. Vice President Vikheto Chisho emphasized that such hikes could be financially burdensome for many families. While the federation supports a sanitation tax, Zakiesato urged a thorough review of the collection rates to ensure affordability.
The DUCCF also highlighted inefficiencies within the DMC, claiming over 400 workers are on the payroll, yet only about half reportedly fulfill their duties consistently. Furthermore, they criticized the surge in taxations imposed on the business community.
On the state’s prohibition policy, the DUCCF criticized the ineffective implementation of the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition Act, 1989. Despite advocating for lifting the ban in Dimapur, the government’s indecisive stance remains unchanged. Zakiesato urged the state to clarify its position on the Act, cautioning that the lack of enforcement has inadvertently led to a rise in drug abuse and related crimes.
The federation also addressed controversies surrounding the establishment of a Primary Health Centre at Midland village, with assurances for resolution by December.
