Guwahati, Nov 27: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu outlined a visionary future for the state’s tourism, aiming to position it as a premier global destination that highlights its natural beauty, cultural heritage, and adventure offerings. Speaking at the 12th International Tourism Mart in Kaziranga, Assam, Khandu emphasized the importance of the event in strengthening the northeast’s tourism sector by fostering connections among stakeholders, encouraging collaborations, and highlighting the region’s unique attractions.
Khandu stressed on sustainable and eco-friendly tourism development, focusing on enhancing infrastructure, improving connectivity, and creating attractive treks, trails, and festivals to draw both domestic and international travelers. He highlighted efforts to involve local communities through homestays and skill development initiatives, positioning Arunachal Pradesh as a model for responsible tourism. This strategy not only aims at increasing tourism numbers but also seeks to boost the economy, preserve cultural identity, and protect the environment for future generations.
The Chief Minister pointed out Arunachal Pradesh’s strategic location, sharing borders with Myanmar, Tibet, and Bhutan, and emphasized the Indian Army’s role as a crucial partner in promoting tourism under the Vibrant Village Programme. This collaboration aims to develop border villages and enhance sustainable tourism opportunities.
Khandu highlighted the state’s potential for adventure tourism, including trekking and rafting, while noting a 205 percent increase in tourist arrivals over the past decade. He invited tour operators, investors, and influencers to explore partnerships in innovative tourism ventures, assuring them of a supportive environment for sustainable initiatives. Additionally, he announced Arunachal Pradesh as the host for the 16th Annual Conference of the Adventure Tour Operators Association of India in Tawang from December 3 to 8. The event was inaugurated by Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and other northeastern state tourism ministers in attendance.
