Fierce Opposition: Pradyot Champions Heritage Over Luxury at Pushpabanta Palace – Urges Government for Thoughtful Reconsideration
Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, the founder of Tipra Motha, has voiced strong opposition to the Tripura government’s alleged proposal to convert the historic Pushpabanta Palace into a five-star hotel. In his video message shared on Tuesday, Pradyot urged the government to reconsider this decision, warning of potential protests against the project.
The Pushpabanta Palace, also known as the old Raj Bhawan, was originally transferred to the Government of India in 1949 by Rajmata Kanchan Prabha Devi, with the understanding that it would serve as the Governor’s House. Pradyot highlighted that a previous BJP-IPFT government had planned to create a public library at the site to honor Maharaja, celebrating the culture and traditions of Tripura’s indigenous people. However, the current administration is allegedly pushing forward with plans to develop a luxury hotel, disregarding public input and cultural significance.
Expressing his concerns, Pradyot stated, “I am deeply concerned that the remaining traces of Tripura’s history, especially related to our Maharaja, are being overlooked for the sake of profit.” While he supports development and tourism, he emphasizes that these initiatives should not compromise historical sites.
Pradyot expressed his willingness to offer alternative land for such developments but firmly insisted that historical landmarks remain untouched. “If necessary, I am willing to provide land for such ventures, but I will not allow this to happen at our historical landmarks. This is unacceptable, and I will not stand for it,” he declared, promising to rally public resistance if the government proceeds with the controversial project.
As the dispute unfolds, the community remains attentive to Pradyot’s leadership and the government’s response regarding the future of the revered Pushpabanta Palace.
