Stunning Arrest: Mizoram Police and Assam Rifles Seize Heroin Worth Rs 1.93 Crore from Myanmar Man in Champhai
In a successful joint operation, the Mizoram police and the Assam Rifles intercepted a cross-border drug trafficking attempt, seizing heroin valued at Rs 1.93 crore in Champhai district, East Mizoram. The operation led to the arrest of a Myanmar national involved in the illegal activity.
Acting on reliable intelligence, the Zokhawthar police department, along with the Assam Rifles, conducted a carefully planned operation near Melbuk on November 25. The operation was centered around intercepting trafficking activities across the Tiau River. During the operation, the team set up an ambush and observed an individual crossing the river on a Kenbo Bike. This individual attempted to smuggle drugs but was apprehended upon spot-checking.
The authorities recovered 258 grams of Heroin No. 4, found inside 22 soap cases concealed within a white sack. The suspect, identified as 42-year-old Vanbiakmanga from Webula, Myanmar, was immediately arrested. The Kenbo Bike, used in the smuggling attempt, was also seized during the operation.
This successful interception highlights the vigilance and coordination between the Mizoram police and the Assam Rifles in combating drug trafficking across the India-Myanmar border. The seized drugs, the arrested individual, and the vehicle have been handed over to the Zokhawthar Police Department in Champhai District for further investigation and legal action.
