Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Supriya Sule has challenged BJP national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi to a debate following allegations of involvement in a “bitcoin scam” aimed at influencing Maharashtra Assembly election results in favor of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA). These accusations, initially made by Trivedi during a press conference, were backed by an alleged audio clip that purportedly implicates Sule and Congress leader Nana Patole in illegal bitcoin transactions.
In a firm denial, Sule took to the social media platform X to reject Trivedi’s claims as “conjecture and innuendo,” expressing her readiness to confront any BJP representative in a public forum. In response, she has filed a criminal complaint with both the Election Commission and the Cyber Cell in Pune, asserting that the allegations are part of a campaign of misinformation designed to sway voters.
Sule accused Trivedi of spreading false information and announced plans to issue a criminal and civil defamation notice against him. Retired IPS officer Ravindranath Patil also implicated Sule and Patole in a cryptocurrency fraud from 2018, accusing them of using these funds for election campaigns. Patil further alleged involvement of Pune’s then Police Commissioner, Amitabh Gupta, and Deputy Commissioner, Bhagyashri Nautake, in the misappropriation of bitcoins.
The BJP has posed five questions to the Congress party, including whether they are involved in bitcoin transactions and if the audio evidence is authentic. Sule dismissed these questions as old tactics aimed at misleading the electorate. She criticized the use of such strategies in a democratic society governed by the Indian Constitution.
The unfolding situation underscores a significant political controversy in Maharashtra, with Sule staunchly defending her integrity against the allegations while calling for accountability and transparency from her accusers.
