Coimbatore Corporation’s Bold Initiative: Transforming Roads with an Expertly Designed DPR
The city roads in Coimbatore have faced significant damage due to ongoing infrastructure projects, such as underground drainage works, pipeline and telecom installations. The Coimbatore Corporation oversees a vast network that includes 2,240 km of tar roads, 240 km of cement roads, 16 km of stone roads, and over 100 km of mud roads. Currently, many of these roads are left in a damaged state after such projects, with patchwork repairs commonly performed within a five-year cycle.
In response to concerns raised by consumer organizations and social activists about severely damaged roads in areas like Masakalipalayam, Avarampalayam, Peelamedu, and others, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has announced a substantial allocation of ₹200 crore for road restoration during his recent visit to the city. Corporation Commissioner Sivaguru Prabhakaran highlighted that they are undertaking a thorough analysis of road conditions across various wards. They are in the process of preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR) to outline the scope of the necessary relaying work. This report, which seeks governmental approval, aims to initiate comprehensive road repair operations across Coimbatore once sanctioned.
