Heroic Coast Guard Mission: Emotional Rescue of 7 Indian Fishermen from Pakistan Captivity
In a swift and decisive operation, the Indian Coast Guard successfully rescued seven fishermen who had been detained by the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) near the India-Pakistan maritime boundary off the Gujarat coast. The incident, which occurred on a Sunday, unfolded after the Coast Guard received a distress signal from an Indian fishing vessel operating close to the No-Fishing Zone (NFZ). According to a statement from the Indian Coast Guard (ICG), their ship received the emergency call at around 15:30 pm, alerting them that another Indian fishing boat, Kal Bhairav, had been intercepted by a PMSA vessel, leading to the apprehension of its seven crew members.
Promptly reacting to the alert, the ICG dispatch a patrol ship to the reported location near the India-Pakistan Maritime Boundary. Despite facing resistance from the retreating PMSA ship, the Coast Guard vessel managed to intercept and negotiate the release of the captured fishermen. All seven crew members were found to be in stable medical condition upon retrieval. However, the Indian fishing boat Kal Bhairav was unfortunately found to have been damaged and sunk during the episode.
The Indian Coast Guard ship returned to the Okha harbor the following Monday. Upon arrival, a joint investigation was launched involving the ICG, Gujarat police, intelligence agencies, and the fisheries department to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the collision between the PMSA vessel and the Indian fishing boat, as well as the rescue operation. The ICG’s swift response and successful rescue highlight its unwavering commitment to safeguarding Indian fishermen and maritime sovereignty.
