Desperate Plea: Families of Israeli Hostages Urge Trump and Biden to Unite for Urgent Rescue Mission
Families of Israeli hostages captured by Hamas have called on U.S. President Joe Biden and President-elect Donald Trump to urgently collaborate on securing the hostages’ release before winter arrives. This plea was made during a press conference in Rome, where both former hostages and relatives of those still in captivity are meeting with various figures, including local Jewish community leaders and Pope Francis.
Sharon Lifshitz, whose mother was freed last year while her father remains captive, emphasized the need for bipartisan cooperation, stating, “This is not about the left and right; all people should come together.” Similarly, Norberto Louis Har, freed in February by Israeli forces, stressed the focus should be on freeing those still held, rather than on political divisions.
In a meeting with Pope Francis, participants presented photos of their captive relatives, urging his continued prayers for the hostages’ freedom. Lifshitz praised the Pope’s kindness and support, noting his commitment to pray for each hostage.
As of now, Israeli authorities report that 117 hostages have returned safely, including four released at the conflict’s onset. Tragically, 37 are confirmed dead. About 101 remain in Gaza, with at least half believed to be alive.
The families’ appeal underscores the dire urgency of their situation, emphasizing that another winter in captivity is untenable for their loved ones. They urge immediate international cooperation to bring the remaining hostages home.
