Beloved Scholar and Visionary Leader, Prof. M.S. Thimmappa, Former V-C of Bangalore University, Passes Away: Remembering His Inspiring Legacy
Prof. M.S. Thimmappa, former Vice-Chancellor of Bangalore University, passed away at age 83 in a Bengaluru private hospital on November 12. A brain injury from an October 11 fall, combined with existing ailments, led to his decline. He had been battling prostate cancer and other health challenges, including high blood sugar. Living alone since the loss of his daughter in 2000 and wife in 2007, Prof. Thimmappa was a respected psychology professor and university leader, serving as registrar from 1996 to 2000 and vice-chancellor from 2002 to 2006. Known for his interpersonal skills and leadership in academia, he impacted countless students and mentees. Public viewing of his body was held at his Jayanagar home, with final rites at Chamarajpet crematorium. Among those offering condolences were M.S. Jayakara, Vice-Chancellor of Bangalore University, and Sharath Ananthamurthy, Vice-Chancellor of Kuvempu University.
