Empowering Victory: Striking Boeing Machinists Secure New Contract with Unprecedented 38% Raises!
Boeing machinists, represented by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers District 751, are set to vote for the third time on a new contract proposal amid an ongoing strike in Renton, Washington. Over 32,000 workers have been on strike for more than seven weeks, halting most of Boeing’s aircraft production, a significant setback in the company’s planned turnaround year. The revised contract includes a 38% wage increase over four years, up from the previously rejected 35%, but below the union’s original demand for a 40% hike. The initial proposal that triggered the strike in September offered 25% raises. If a simple majority endorses the deal, the strike will end, and machinist pay would average $119,309 by the contract’s completion. The Seattle area’s high cost of living remains a concern for workers. The union emphasized that the current proposal may be the best achievable, warning against potential future concessions. Union leaders encouraged members to consider the long-term benefits of accepting the deal, urging them to “lock in these gains” for future negotiations. Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg has also appealed to workers to return, acknowledging the strike’s impact on employees, customers, and communities. In a Friday note, Ortberg encouraged unity to revitalize Boeing and maintain its reputation for producing leading aircraft. Meanwhile, Boeing has secured over $20 billion to bolster its finances.
