Breaking: Gopal Shetty Stuns Supporters by Withdrawing Nomination for Maharashtra Polls!
In a notable development for the BJP, Gopal Shetty, a seasoned politician from Mumbai’s Borivali constituency, has withdrawn his independent candidacy for the Maharashtra Assembly election. Borivali, a stronghold for the BJP, had seen Mr. Shetty step aside for Piyush Goyal during the recent Lok Sabha elections, anticipating he would be favored in the Vidhan Sabha elections. Despite his impressive record, including two terms as an MP and MLA, the party chose Sanjay Upadhyay over him, prompting Mr. Shetty to initially run independently. Nevertheless, after discussions with BJP leader Vinod Tawde, he decided to retract his nomination. Mr. Shetty, who previously secured the Mumbai North Lok Sabha seat with significant margins in 2014 and 2019, was overlooked for the 2024 general elections, with the candidacy going to Piyush Goyal, now a Union minister. Meanwhile, another BJP dissenter, Sweekruti Sharma from Andheri East, has also decided to withdraw her nomination. (With inputs from PTI)
