Honoring Valor: Indian Army’s 78th Infantry Day Tribute Inspires Unity in Manipur & Nagaland
KOHIMA, OCTOBER 27: The Indian Army marked the 78th Infantry Day, also known as Shaurya Diwas, at the Leimakhong Military Station in Manipur and the Zakhama Military Station in Nagaland with solemn and respectful ceremonies. This day, observed annually on October 27, commemorates the pivotal landing of Indian troops at the Srinagar Airfield in 1947, which thwarted the advance of Pakistani tribal forces into Kashmir. According to a press release from the Ministry of Defence’s PRO and Spokesperson for Manipur, Nagaland, and Southern Arunachal Pradesh, the events held at these military stations included wreath-laying ceremonies at war memorials, paying tribute to the brave Infantry soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice for national security.
In addition to honoring fallen soldiers, a special documentary was screened, showcasing the significant contributions of the Corps of Infantry in multiple military operations and underscoring their critical role in the nation’s defense. The ceremonies were graced by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Red Shield Division, accompanied by officers, Junior Commissioned Officers, soldiers, and veterans. Their presence highlighted the strong bonds across generations of military service members and reaffirmed their steadfast commitment to duty.
This observance serves as a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made by Infantry personnel throughout India’s history and the continued dedication exhibited by both current service members and veterans. The day is a testament to the courage, legacy, and unwavering service of the Indian Army’s Infantry troops in protecting the nation’s integrity.
