Shocking Turn in Assam: Beloved Actress Sumi Borah and 7 Others Jailed in Jaw-Dropping Multi-Crore Online Trading Scam
In a recent development in the multi-crore online trading fraud case, Assamese actress and social media influencer Sumi Borah, along with her husband Tarkik Borah and seven others, has been placed in judicial custody. The court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate rejected the Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) request for the accused’s custody. Instead, the group, including Bishal Phukan, Amlan Borah, Ranjit Kakoti, Abhijit Chanda, Shubhan Jyoti Kurmi, and Chandan Nath, will make their next appearance before a special CBI court on Monday.
The CBI, which recently assumed control of the investigation from state police, has been focusing on dismantling the extensive online trading scam. Following the transfer of the accused from Dibrugarh to Guwahati last Friday, the arrests solidified when links were found connecting Sumi Borah, her husband Tarkik, and his brother Amlan to Bishal Phukan, a significant figure in the Rs 2,200 crore fraud. Ranjit Kakoti, another suspect, is also thought to have connections to the fraudulent activities and was among those moved to Guwahati.
The relocation and the subsequent legal actions come after the Dibrugarh district and sessions court approved the CBI’s request to handle the cases in a dedicated CBI court. The fraud cases are filed under two investigations registered at Dibrugarh Sadar police station, identified as case numbers 352/24 and 354/24. Currently, the accused are held at the Central Jail in Guwahati as the investigation continues. Their confinement will last until they appear in court again, marking a significant step forward in this high-stakes scam investigation.
