Tragic Assault in Kashmir’s Gagangir: Six Innocent Lives Lost as Leaders Voice Strong Condemnation
In a tragic incident on Sunday evening, terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Gagangir, part of the Ganderbal district, killed six people, including two non-local workers and two officers. The attack, which also injured at least five individuals, occurred near a campsite of the under-construction Z-Morh tunnel, a critical infrastructure project designed to ensure all-weather connectivity between Kashmir and Ladakh. The Resistance Front (TRF), linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba, claimed responsibility for this violent act aimed at civilians.
The area was swiftly cordoned off by security forces from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and local police, with National Investigation Agency (NIA) teams arriving on-site. Leaders across political parties condemned the attack, labeling it a cowardly act of terror. The region’s Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, along with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Home Minister Amit Shah, and other politicians like Priyanka Gandhi and Nitin Gadkari, expressed their condolences and urged for swift justice.
The incident marks a significant attack in an area known for peace over the past decade. Officials emphasized the strategic importance of the Z-Morh tunnel, highlighting its necessity for the smooth movement of people, goods, and defense forces, often disrupted by heavy snowfall at Zojila. This attack raises concerns over regional stability and safety, with leaders urging a united front against such acts of violence.
