Spectacular Milestone: Eutelsat’s Groundbreaking Satellite Launch Aboard SpaceX Rocket After Landmark Merger
Eutelsat, the world’s third-largest satellite operator by revenue, successfully launched 20 satellites for its communications network with the help of Elon Musk’s SpaceX. The launch took place from California’s Vandenberg Space Force Base via a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket at 0513 GMT on Sunday. This marks the first satellite launch since the merger of France’s Eutelsat and Britain’s OneWeb in September of last year, resulting in a constellation of over 600 low Earth orbit satellites. Eutelsat CEO Eva Berneke expressed the company’s desire to integrate into the telecom ecosystem, acknowledging satellites as a niche component alongside major telecom companies. Eutelsat’s clientele includes telecom operators like France’s Orange and Australia’s Telstra, with ongoing discussions with other networks such as AT&T in the U.S.
The Paris-based group aims to expand further in markets like India, anticipated to grow by 36% annually to $1.9 billion by 2030. However, Eutelsat is awaiting regulatory clearance to operate there due to tensions between local players and international firms such as Starlink. The company has a $4 billion backlog of orders, with some pending for the Indian market. Meanwhile, Eutelsat is also exploring partnerships with aviation companies to provide in-flight connectivity solutions, including internet browsing, forecasting increased revenues beginning next year.
