India Fiercely Rebuts Canadian Allegations: Demands Urgent Action on Overdue Extradition Requests
India has categorically dismissed allegations from the Canadian government, describing them as unfounded. During a press briefing in New Delhi, External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal criticized Canada for not presenting any evidence to back its serious accusations against India and its diplomats. Jaiswal suggested these claims are part of a politically motivated effort by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s administration to tarnish India’s standing.
Highlighting ongoing diplomatic concerns, Jaiswal pointed out that 26 extradition requests remain unresolved with Canada, alongside multiple provisional arrest requests. Among those sought are individuals facing charges related to terrorism, including Gurjeet Singh, Gurpreet Singh, Arshadeep Singh Gill, and Lakhbir Singh Landa. Jaiswal stressed that India has shared crucial security information with Canadian authorities about gang members, notably from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, urging Canada to detain them and act in accordance with the law. Despite these efforts, the Canadian government has yet to take any action, a matter India finds seriously troubling. Instead of addressing these issues, the spokesperson argued that the Canadian government is attempting to deflect blame onto India.
India’s firm stance underscores the strained relations and highlights the need for Canada to provide substantial evidence if it wishes to maintain credibility. This development remains a critical issue in diplomatic circles, emphasizing the complexity of international relations and the importance of cooperation in addressing security threats.
