Congress Takes Bold Stand: Files FIR Against BJP Following Fiery Clash in By-Poll-Bound Samaguri
In Raha, tensions flared on Tuesday following the Election Commission of India’s announcement regarding by-polls in five Assembly constituencies, including Samaguri. A violent altercation erupted between alleged Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers. The clash reportedly began during a Congress rally in the Samaguri constituency and escalated when a mob, allegedly led by former Congress leader Mujibur Rahman, attacked members in cars with bamboo sticks and sharp weapons.
Following the violence, Dhubri MP and Samaguri Congress MLA Rakibul Hussain, accompanied by Rupohihat MLA Nurul Huda and Batadraba MLA Sibamoni Bora, filed an FIR at Nagaon Police Station against Rahman and 50 others. “We identified individuals responsible and expect the law to take strict action,” Huda stated.
Videos showing the vandalism of vehicles have gone viral, prompting immediate police intervention to bring the situation under control. Despite this, tensions remain high in the area. Reports surfaced that the clash was ignited after Congress workers allegedly tore down BJP banners along the rally route. The police have been criticized for their handling of the situation, with Hussain claiming that MLA Bora was assaulted but noting a lack of police response. “This demonstrates the BJP’s disrespect for women,” Hussain commented, reflecting the growing political tensions between the parties.
However, BJP leaders have turned the accusations back onto Hussain, alleging that he instigated the clash by bringing outsiders into Samaguri to create chaos. “Rakibul Hussain orchestrated this violence to bolster his son’s chances in the by-polls,” claimed BJP state general secretary Diplu Ranjan Sarma. Both sides continue to trade accusations, intensifying the political rivalry in the currently volatile Samaguri constituency.
