Shocking Shake-Up: Congress’ Haryana In-Charge Deepak Babaria Resigns Over Disastrous Poll Performance
In a significant political development, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) achieved a remarkable victory by securing a third consecutive term in the Haryana Assembly elections. The BJP’s success came despite facing potential anti-incumbency, marking their best-ever performance in the state with 48 seats, surpassing Congress by 11 seats. This resounding win left the Congress grappling with introspection and accountability, as their anticipated comeback was decisively stalled.
Deepak Babaria, Congress’ General Secretary and Haryana in-charge, offered to resign, accepting moral responsibility for the party’s poor performance. The defeat prompted internal deliberations as Congress sought to decipher the causes behind this electoral setback, which extended their decade-long relegation to the Opposition.
While Congress had leaned on support from Dalit and Jat voters, who make up a considerable portion of Haryana’s demographics, the BJP made substantial inroads into these communities. The ruling party notably flipped eight of the 17 Scheduled Caste (SC) seats, including prominent constituencies such as Nilokheri and Hodal, the latter witnessing the defeat of Haryana Congress chief, Udai Bhan.
The smaller parties, including the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), suffered significant losses, while the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) managed a mere two seats.
Post-defeat, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi expressed his surprise at the election outcome, indicating an internal analysis was underway. He acknowledged the support received from the people of Haryana and reaffirmed the party’s commitment to fight for social and economic justice.
The BJP’s triumph, characterized by an impressive gain in SC seats compared to their previous performance, has further solidified their dominance in Haryana’s political landscape, leaving the Congress and other opposition parties to reevaluate their strategies in this challenging environment.
