Arunachal Village’s Bold Initiative: Planting 62 Burmese Grape Saplings to Ignite a Green India Transformation
On October 7, the villagers of Darne, located in the Mebo Sub-Division of East Siang District, Arunachal Pradesh, launched an initiative titled ‘Relek’—a mission to plant 62 saplings of Burmese grapes, or ‘Bureng,’ aligning with the nationwide Clean and Green India campaign. This groundbreaking effort was initiated in the presence of key officials, including Dr. Manjuli Komut, Chief Executive Officer of Pasighat Smart City Development Corporation Ltd, Mebo ADC Sibo Passing, and RFO Mebo Range Domek Koyu, along with members of the local community and self-help groups (SHGs).
Organized by the Bising Mo:ying Darne Committee led by Maklung Apum and Sevedy Perme, the launch event included an awareness meeting emphasizing the environmental benefits of plantation and strategies to care for and protect the newly planted saplings. The term ‘Relek,’ meaning a garden of Burmese grapes, signifies the mission’s broader vision of transforming Darne village into a verdant landscape within the next 5-10 years. The initiative is not only expected to enhance local biodiversity but also hopes to attract visitors and tourists to the area once the trees mature and bear fruit.
Dr. Komut, Passing, and Koyu commended the community’s unique endeavor and committed to overseeing the project’s progress. They highlighted the potential for Darne village’s transformation into a thriving green space and encouraged villagers to maintain their commitment to nurturing the saplings.
In addition to the launch, uniforms for the volunteers of the Bureng Mission (Bising Mo:ying Darne) and ambulance workers (volunteer Minggul) were unveiled. The SHGs played a crucial role by supplying the 62 saplings, with assurances from local leaders, including Youth leader Benjamin Borang and SHG representative Smty Yebin Borang, to ensure the saplings’ protection and growth.
