Celebrating Dhiru Bhuyan: A Profound Journey Through an Iconic Career
GUWAHATI: The city paid tribute to the legacy of the late Dhiru Bhuyan, an esteemed playwright, radio artiste, film director, and actor, marking 25 years since his passing. The homage was organized by “D’Passion Collective” and “Udara,” featuring special performances and screenings. “Ami Aso,” a play by Dr. Amarjyoti Choudhury, directed by Dhiru Bhuyan’s son, Satyaki D’Com Bhuyan, was staged on October 4, 5, and 6, drawing a large audience of theatre enthusiasts.
Additionally, the acclaimed Assamese film “Pratham Ragini” (1987), directed by Bhuyan and an awardee of the Rajat Kamal Award, was showcased on Sunday morning. This event was supported by “Heritage Jhankar,” which also presented a documentary titled “Dhiru Bhuyan—let’s take a look back,” produced by Tridip Goswami. As part of the commemoration, a portrait of Dhiru Bhuyan, painted by Dr. Sanjeev Handique, was unveiled by Rita Bhuyan, his widow.
The screenings and performances drew notable attendees, including Purabi Sarma, Bandana Sharma, and Malabika Bora, who performed in the famous song “Paharor Bhaje Bhaje,” along with various family members, artists, and admirers of Bhuyan’s work. Renowned personalities like Pradeep Acharya and Tapan Das shared their memories and reflected on Dhiru Bhuyan’s immense contribution to the cultural landscape. The event was eloquently hosted by Nayan Prasad. This celebration served as a reminder of Bhuyan’s enduring impact on Assamese art and cinema.
