Breaking Triumph: Essential Uttarakhand Government Websites Restored After Destructive Malware Attack
The websites of key government departments in Uttarakhand were temporarily closed following a malware attack on the State Data Center, but have been restored by Sunday. According to Nitika Khandelwal, Director of the Information Technology Development Agency (ITDA), major portals like ‘Apni Sarkar’, ‘E-Office’, ‘E-Ravanna’, and Chardham registration are now operational. However, services like the CM Helpline and State Portal were restored earlier on Saturday. The cyber attack occurred on a public holiday, causing manual operations to replace regular online processes, including the suspension of ration card holder verifications.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami convened a meeting to evaluate the malware incident and instructed officials to scan the data center and reinstate essential online services by Monday. It was confirmed there was no data loss during the attack. The CM Helpline received about 2,034 calls, with 1,879 returned and over 600 complaints logged.
Nitesh Jha, State Information Technology Secretary, reported that 11 out of 1,378 machines were affected by the malware. Dhami has emphasized enhancing the security systems with the assistance of top IT agencies from the Government of India. He also instructed a security audit for the State Data Centre and ordered the establishment of a Disaster Recovery Centre to protect online data. Additionally, Dhami urged ITDA officials to update antivirus systems in all government offices, and stated that any negligence by the ITDA’s technical partners would lead to necessary action.
