Unite for Change: Discover the Inspiring Journey of Asom Sonmilito Morcha
Guwahati: The United Opposition Forum in Assam, a coalition of opposition parties, has rebranded itself as Asom Sonmilito Morcha (ASOM). This alliance comprises key political entities including Congress, Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP), Raijor Dal, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), and the Left parties. The combined forces are strategizing to challenge the BJP-led government in the upcoming elections.
At a press conference in Guwahati, Lurinjyoti Gogoi, AJP’s chief and the forum’s secretary, announced that the coalition originally named ‘Birodi Aikya Mancha Asom’ was formed in anticipation of the 2024 general elections. Since its inception with 10-11 parties, the alliance has grown to include 16 parties working cohesively towards the 2026 state assembly elections.
Gogoi disclosed that after deliberations, it was unanimously decided to rename the forum as Asom Sonmilito Morcha or ASOM, indicating a strengthened partnership. He emphasized that the alliance is set to contest all forthcoming elections, particularly the panchayat polls scheduled for later this year, with a united front. Expressing optimism, Gogoi stated that ASOM aims to establish the next government in Assam.
This political maneuver highlights the opposition’s efforts to consolidate their presence in Assam and challenge the ruling party’s administration effectively.
