Revolutionary Milestone: Assam’s Groundbreaking Launch of ‘Co-Districts’ on Oct 4 Sparks Excitement
In a groundbreaking initiative, Assam is set to become the first Indian state to introduce “co-districts” aimed at decentralizing governance and improving public access to services. Scheduled for launch on Friday, this initiative involves creating smaller administrative units below the district level to streamline government services. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the move on social media, highlighting its role in bringing governance closer to the people and fulfilling the government’s vision of “Minimum Government, Maximum Governance.”
In the first phase, 39 co-districts will be established, operational from Friday and Saturday. These units will focus on delivering citizen-centric services such as issuing essential certificates, ration cards, land permits, and other government approvals, enabling residents to handle administrative tasks locally without the need to visit district commissioner offices.
This pioneering approach is designed to enhance the efficiency and accessibility of public services, creating a more responsive and effective system tailored to the needs of Assam’s citizens. Through co-district offices, the initiative aims to ensure that governance is more directly aligned with the daily lives and requirements of the populace, marking a significant shift in administrative practices in India.
