Tragic Rhino Attack: Assam Biker’s Heartbreaking Death Near Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary
A biker named Saddam Hussain, 37, from Sonapur Kachutali in the Kamrup (Metro) district, was fatally attacked by a rhino near Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary on Sunday, September 29, local officials reported. The incident occurred near Haduk Bridge while Hussain was riding his motorcycle from Mayong to Chamata. According to forest officials, the rhino had wandered out of the sanctuary and charged at the biker.
Nayan Jyoti Das, the Forest Range Officer of Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, confirmed the death and stated, “The rhino came out of the wildlife sanctuary. We are investigating the incident.” This tragic event has sparked concerns about human-wildlife conflict in the area, and further investigations are underway to determine how the rhino managed to escape from the sanctuary.
This incident adds to a series of recent animal attacks in different parts of India. On September 27, four people, including three children, were injured in separate attacks in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh. In the Katarniaghat area, a leopard attacked a 13-year-old girl and a 35-year-old man, while two other people suffered injuries from suspected wolf attacks in the Bahraich forest division. Katarniaghat Divisional Forest Officer Shiv Shankar confirmed the leopard attack and stated that the victims are receiving medical treatment.
The spate of animal attacks has heightened concerns over the increasing human-wildlife conflicts across various regions of India, prompting authorities to look into remedial measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
